In 2016, Milla Jovovich concluded her six film journey as Alice in Resident Evil: The Final Chapter. No sooner was it released that Screen Gems began talking about a reboot, because in Hollywood there’s just no killing a profitable franchise.
Two and a half years later, Jovovich was on the set of Monster Hunter speaking to Bloody-Disgusting on a conference call for her Parcels music video Withorwithout. When we asked if anyone has asked her to play Alice again, she quite happily had no knowledge of any plans.
“You know what? Not to me personally,” Jovovich said. “I haven’t even talked to Paul [W.S. Anderson] or [know] if they’ve talked to him about it. We’ve been in the middle of Monster Hunter. He’s been developing this for nine years so we’re working on our next passion project at this point. I don’t know. I have no clue. Can’t tell you anything about that honestly. I haven’t heard anything about it.”
Alice was the unsinkable survivor of the zombie epidemic in Raccoon City when the Umbrella Corp.’s virus brought the dead back to life. In each sequel, she became more powerful, then a little less powerful again but later back up to full strength. Along the way she met other characters from the video game series, not all of whom survived. But if the studio is sticking with plans for a reboot, they could either start over with a new adaptation of the game, or even follow some different survivor characters.
